China is not only the largest market for automotive industry, but also the largest for production and sales of electric vehicles. In an effort to combat air pollution, China has created a range subsidies and buying incentives in recent years to promote the sale of emission-free vehicles.

In order to improve the quality control of automotive products, the requirements for certification of New Energy Vehicles (NEV) have been tightened according to the revised GB standard GB18352.6. More stringent requirements have been set for the implementation of product certifications.
The term New Energy Vehicles (NEV) includes various alternatively powered vehicles. The large majority consists of purely electric vehicles followed by plug-in hybrids with an electric powered range of at least 50 kilometers.

The CNCA published its 33rd announcement on March 24, 2017. In the announcement they extended the powers of the CCAP (China Certification Centre for Automotive Products) in respect to the complete car homologation (CCC certification for complete vehicles).

With its 33rd announcement, the CNCA has published its decision that the CCAP can approve foreign manufacturers and cars in accordance to the Implementation Rule CNCA-C11-01: 2014.
