Because I think the music is a big part of a game, I am really interested in game soundtracks!

Good soundtracks I know are the soundtrack of Kingdom Hearts (any game of the series, they are all good :D), the Bastion soundtrack, the Braid soundtrack and maybe also the Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers soundtrack.

So I want to hear about game soundtracks you know and you consider as worth hearing!

I usually enjoy interpreting/listening to a game's soundtrack over taking in the graphics, but that's just me. On topic, I think that the question is too broad to be answered specifically, because there's just SOOO many great game tracks that I've heard. I could make long lists each for best chiptunes, indie soundtracks, modern soundtracks, final boss themes, title screen themes, loading themes, etc.

...But I'll take your challenge XeraNox. If I were to pick one track that really means a lot to me it would probably be the E1M1 track ("At Doom's Gate") from Doom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsfjHCFosw

In reality, I could probably name a bunch of game tracks that are (in theory) "better" than E1M1 to me, but it is just special for one reason or another.

Alright, fine, here are some great indie tracks: (Most of the games listed have great entire soundtracks, but I'm just naming a few outstanding ones that are some of my favorites)

VVVVVV- "Pushing Onwards": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25m3Gk7mRQM
SMB- "The Battle of Lil' Slugger": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL-8rU8ltA4
The Binding of Isaac- "My Innermost Apocalypse": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikTwG27I1qc
La-Mulana- "Interstice of the Dimension": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfWB8odAPdA
Jamestown- "Conquistador": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OzLdBlt144&feature=channel&list=UL
A.V.G.M.- "Blooba Doop Scooba": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KwadSJlU5A
Terraria- "Boss 3": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9zfk7u7G04&feature=relmfu
Braid- "Downstream": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiWXrVXOMAU
Cave Story- "On to Grasstown": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlmOhXoKmoQ
Castle Crashers- "Forest Entrance": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANeZYPSdz2Q

I really like the soundtracks from Bastion and the Fallout series, but my favourite OST is from Persona 4. The music, while great on it's own, is imho the best example of a soundtrack that works to further advance the mood and setting conveyed by the game itself. (i hope that made some sense).

Also Binding of Isaac, the Caves bgm.

Escapism, ho!

As far as Indie soundtracks are concerned, games like Bastion, Jamestown, and To The Moon really stood out to me. I think chiptunes are wearing out on me currently, though Cave Story songs can still get stuck in my head quite easily.

When I think of great soundtracks, I tend to think of lots of older games I would play, too. Crazy Taxi stands out for me with it's soundtrack by Offspring and Bad Religion ("Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya!"). I'm also quite fond of music from Sonic the Hedgehog games, especially the cheesey, Crush 40 stuff from the 3D games and the whole remix album from Sonic Generations. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater wasn't that special of a game for me, but I played the crap out of that game when it was new largely due to the soundtrack.

Also a big fan of the Doom soundtrack, and really enjoy any remixes I happen on of that music.

An all time favorite of mine though would have to be The Secret of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. I remember first time seeing that intro, and hearing that music (back in 1992 I think?), I was really excited to get to playing. A couple of other favorites worth mentioning would probably be the whole "Bone Dance" scene and LeChuck's theme.

I have a lot of similar favorites (stuff like VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy and Braid), so I won't put those up again. I do have to add FEZ and FTL to this list though, those games had amazing soundtracks. FTL was also especially awesome since every song had an 'explore' and 'battle' version that would dynamically interlace during combat and exploration. Here, have a listen.

FTL 'Milky Way (Explore)'

FTL 'Milky Way (Battle)'

FEZ 'Majesty' (Watch your volume on this one, it starts low but gets louder fast.

FEZ 'Death'

Indies all the way. You can check out my deviantART page if you want: http://gijssickenga.deviantart.com/

Wow, has been long since I've looked here, so many suggestions! Thanks to all of you!
@Gijs: Although I've played FTL, I never really recognized the fact that the music has those two versions. Now that I know it , I realize how great it adds to the atmosphere in the specific situation.
